Our Mission

Our mission is to empower all children with a variety of mindfulness and yoga tools (creating their own tool box) to help navigate life’s challenges in a positive way and become more self-aware.

Why Mindfulness & Yoga

Mindfulness brings about awareness. For centuries, Yoga has been known for its physical and mental benefits. The word “Yoga” comes from the Sanskrit root “Yuj”, which means to unite. When we unite mind, body, and breath in a mindful way, we become more aware of ourselves, the people around us, and our surroundings. This allows one the opportunity to develop resilience and to choose conscious heartfelt actions that benefit ourselves and our communities.

Bridge Mindfulness and Yoga strives to empower our youth to be aware through the connection of thoughts, breath, and body, which allows for resilience and conscious heartfelt actions, thus making the world a better place for all. Our class design is as follows:

  • Classes are 45 min long/once a month.

  • A typical class begins with a breathing technique or mindfulness exercise to introduce the theme, followed by a yoga flow, balancing postures for focus, floor stretches, and ending with a guided resting pose and closing breaths.

  • We integrate music, rhythm, movement, stories, props, and visualizations to aid in the class.

  • Each class has a theme, which we coordinate with the teachers, psychologist, Project Cornerstone liaison, and the principal.

  • Theme examples: Kindness, Respectfulness, Responsibility, Curiosity, Empathy, Gratitude, Awareness and many more.

  • Each child and teacher has their own mat, which is provided by the school.

  • Mats are cleaned after each class with the cleaning solution provided by the school, and then hung on a rack and stored at the school.

Program Cost:

There is a one-time cost for:

  1. Mats. The number of mats depends on the number of students and teachers in each class - typically 30 mats are needed.

  2. Hangers - to hang the mats

  3. Rack for the mats

Please send an e-mail to inquire about the monthly cost, as it varies according to the school’s needs.

The Bridge School Program

Our Story

Nadiya & Becky have been practicing mindfulness & yoga for years and have seen the positive effects it can have on individuals, families, and communities. It helps improve resilience, strength, flexibility, and mood and offers self-regulation skills to aid with emotions and stress. When these skills are taught at a young age, children are given the opportunity to practice them in a safe and caring environment supported by adults and their peers. Many times children are told to act a certain way, such as to be “kind”, but aren’t given the tools to accomplish this goal. The cultivation of self-awareness through mindfulness and yoga can help bridge this gap.

They are both alumni parents of the supportive Loyola Elementary School community and have seen firsthand the severe pressures and challenges children face as they navigate their way through high school and beyond. Nadiya developed an after-school yoga program to help provide these essential yoga and mindfulness skills for children in 2018 but felt it should be provided for all. She met up with Becky who was equally passionate about helping kids and Bridge was started!

Testimonials

Loyola Elementary School Teacher

"After the mindfulness lesson in room 26, I found the students of room 23 to be calm and focused for the rest of our morning. I think with more lessons, my students will also be able to understand the importance of being able to find strategies to manage stress and to have the ability to be still when needed.”

Loyola Elementary School Teacher

"
Nadiya and her crew do a great job engaging all the kids... I have noticed my kids come back calmer, more relaxed, and more ready to take on the day. We also use her breathing strategies throughout our day when we need to focus or are upset by something and need to calm down.”

Loyola Elementary School Teacher

"Y
es! I would love it more often. The kids love it and I have seen such positive changes in my class since the first one. They are more engaged, focused, and skilled in class."

Loyola Student

“I used the breathing strategies taught in class before my rehearsal to calm myself”

Loyola Parent

"
Yoga and mindfulness is absolutely helping my kindergarten-aged child. This is the second year that he has been a part of the program and he is learning tools that I wasn't exposed to until my 40s (maybe 30s...) and I learned them in a corporate setting."

Loyola Parent

“Both my children are a part of this program and have more awareness & tools for mindfulness along with increased flexibility which will serve them well in their other sports activities!”
